This is a very interesting account of a family living years ago in rural surroundings. Well written and flows well when reading.
Interesting and personal. From a time when things were much different but not that long ago. Maybe be true about
the greatest generation.
The time of calling Wednesday night services "prayer meeting," boys shooting marbles, walking to work because you don't own a car or listening to records are all now long gone. But Warren Berkley takes us back to those years as he remembers growing up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and more specifically he remembers the lessons of life his father taught him. Sadly taken from him by a heart attack while Warren was just in junior high, this book reflects on the wide swath Northum Eugene Berkley cut through the lives of many people, especially his son.

While the memories of a bygone era are amusing and nostalgic what is best about this book is that by the time you are done reading it you feel like you know N.E. Berkley yourself. The way he lived his life and the values he promoted are clear and are clearly the kind of the thing needed even in our more complicated times. Simple Christianity, a love for the Lord, a desire to know His Word, and care for others - these are well illustrated in the life of Warren's father and they come to be meaningful to every reader as well.

Everyone will benefit from reading these good recollections. Parents will especially be blessed with some common sense insight on child-rearing. You will laugh and you will cry, but most importantly, you will be better for reading "For However Brief a Time."

I grew up in the city of Fort Smith. I know the author well. Warren's great faith could not have been possible with out the example his father. GOD is the builder of great men.Warren Bearkley and His father are two of them.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It brought back many memories from my childhood in west Texas. I grew up in the same time period and I am astonished at the number of events in my life that parallel those recorded by Brother Berkley.
